Dickens should just rename “Great Expectations” to “Pip Dines a Lot” and be done with it, I swear.
And also, from is it just me or do Pip and Herbert have an incredible amount of ho yay? Especially when Herbert is playing nurse in chapter 50. And then again at the beginning of chapter 55. I mean, not even mentioning the pet names, we get exchanges like
Pip: Look at me.
Herbert: I do look at you, my dear boy.
Pip: Touch me.
Herbert: I do touch you, my dear boy.
and
Herbert: …I am very much afraid I must go, Handel, when you most need me.
Pip: Herbert, I shall always need you, because I shall always love you, but my need is no greater now than at another time.
… Gods, that’s like Holmes and Watson levels of ho yay.
